Rostock lies on the banks of the Warnow River, in the north of Germany. Warnemünde is the seaside part of the city and a major attraction here. It is at the mouth of the same river, by the Baltic sea.
The architecture in the centre of Rostock is a combination of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Some highlights here are the St. Mary's Church and its astronomical clock dating from 1472, and St. Peter's Church, whose tower offers a panoramic view over the old quarter and the port. The Town Hall building was also a merchants' hall in the Middle Ages. See some Medieval art at the Kulturhistorisches Museum or visit Rostock's Maritime Museum and the Heimatmuseum Warnemünde. Enjoy a play at the Volkstheater Rostock, or at the Academy of Music and Theatre. There is also a large number of art galleries.
If you enjoy the outdoors, go to the IGA-Park and the Zoo. In Warnow Park, the Kröpeliner and Lange streets and the Doberaner Platz square you will find shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars that cater for all tastes. Rostock is the perfect destination for those who love the sea, culture and history.
