Kassel is a city located in the Federal Republic of Germany on the banks of the River Fulda.
The city is home to large Turkish and Russian communities, and the different neighbourhoods have much interesting architecture, much of it with French influence. One highlight is the Kassel Conference Centre.
Visit the large statue of Hercules located on a hill top above the Wilhelmshöhe Palace and you can also enjoy the fine view. At the bottom of the hill is the Kurhessen-Therme spa, which has all the facilities for health treatments.
You can travel around the city by tram and, located as Kassel is in the centre of Europe, it is easy to travel to other cities by train and motorway.
Kassel has a great many green spaces, beautiful parks and gardens which, together with its valleys and gentle wooded hills, invite visitors to go for a walk. In winter you can ski at the Habichtswald and there are many golf courses around for those who enjoy this sport.
Kassel's Documenta is an important art exhibition that takes place every five years, and uses different sites around the city; for more art, go to the Wilhelmshöhe Palace where the Alte Meister gallery houses works by Rembrandt and other famous painters.
