Fussen is Bavarian town that is jut 5 kilometres from Germany’s border with Austria.
Located on the banks of the Lech, it is a place that is best known for its impressive castles and the beauty of its scenery. Hohes Schloss is one of the biggest and best preserved Gothic castles in Europe. It is a fine example of Gothic architecture and art, boasting the Bavaria State Collection, a remarkable collection of paintings housed inside the castle. It is, without doubt, one of Fussen’s most important and interesting landmarks. Close by is the Benedictine Monastery of St. Mang, well known for its virtuoso choir and orchestra. The 6th of September is St. Mang’s day, an important and mysterious festival during which a torch-lit procession lights up the old town. Two stunning and charming castles to visit in Fussen are the Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles.
For those who are keen to enjoy nature at its finest, the Alpsee, Obersee, Mittlerersee and Alatsee lakes offer plenty to do and some stunning scenery. Fussen and its castles are waiting for you to come and enjoy a holiday fit for a king!
