Vannes is a French city located on the Gulf of Morbihan, on the Marle River Estuary, 15 kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean. It has an important marina, located right in the centre, by the old town. From here you can take a boat to one of the gulf's islands, or try out some water sports. An interesting sight is the Gulf Park, with its important aquarium, butterfly garden, Maritime Museum, bowling and other attractions.
There are other museums, too, such as the Archaeological Museum and the Cohue Museum. The city's main square has a range of bars and cafés. The Gothic Cathedral of St. Pierre is one of the traditional symbols of Vannes, and the remains of the city's patron saint, Vincent Ferrier, are kept here. In the east of the city, it is still possible to see parts of the Medieval defensive ramparts, and the Tour du Connétable provides a fine viewpoint.
