Tours is the capital of the Département of Indre-et-Loire, in the French region of Centre.
Tours has been named both a “City of Art and History” and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We highly recommend visiting the Château De Tours; situated on the banks of the Loire and dating back to the 12th century, it offers excellent views over the town and has some lovely gardens. We also recommend visiting the Cathedral of St. Gatien (1246), a Gothic style church with some Renaissance touches, and Place Plumereau, located in the old quarter and dating back to the 15th century. This lovely square has old wooden houses and is the scene of open air entertainment, like street performers and buskers. You will also be spoilt for choice on a cultural level, with plenty of museums on offer, including the Museum of Fine Arts, the Natural History Museum, St. Martins Museum and the Tours Museum of Wine, among others.
