The Loire Valley, in central France, includes the cities of Chartres, Tours, Châteauroux and Nantes. After the Cote d'Azur, it is France's most visited region. Of special note are its fine castles and palaces.
A good way to explore the valley and not miss a thing is to do it on a bicycle, which you can rent quite easily.
We recommend visiting Chateau de Villandry, Chateau de Chambord, (the biggest and most majestic), and the chateaux of Amboise, Chenonceau, (on the Cher River), Cheverny, Maintenon, the gardens and Chateau de la Chatonniere, as well as the Parc de Pagode de Chanteloup and the Parc de Mini-Chateaux.
Apart from the castles, we also recommend visiting the Cathedrals of Chartres and Tours, as well as the pretty riverside abbeys. You should also go and see the Museum of Jules Verne, which has replicas of his inventions and the Musee du Vin et de la Tonnellerie.
Visit the city of Orleans and admire its cathedral and the museum celebrating the life of its liberator, Joan of Arc. Also of interest are visits to Loches and Touraine.
