The city of Le Mans is the capital of the Sarthe department, and it is located in the French region of Pays de la Loire.
The city still preserves an interesting artistic and historical heritage and it is also internationally known for hosting the Le Mans 24-hour sports car race.
One of its many highlights is the Saint-Julien de Mans Cathedral. Begun in 1060, it combines the Romanesque and Gothic styles and it is one of the largest medieval buildings in France.
Do not miss either the Tessé Museum: housed in an old bishop's palace that dates from the year 1871; the museum has many collections, including a notable Egyptian display.
