Arles, a city of art and history, is situated in southern France on the banks of the river Rhone.

It was the source of inspiration for Vincent Van Gogh’s artwork. You can see the places where the painter originally placed his easel and copies of the pictures he painted at the time. Its main tourist attractions are: the Roman Amphitheatre, where you can witness the famous bull runs, the Roman Theatre, the crypts at the Roman forum, Constantine’s Thermae, the cloister, the Saint Trophime church door and the Arlaten Museon. These were all declared world heritage sites in 1981.

If you view the town’s museums, you can see one the finest collections of Roman sarcophagus outside of Rome.

Arles is the centre of an agricultural region, and along with other merchandise, including clothing; agricultural produce is sold at the traditional Boulevard des Lices street market on Saturdays.
