Tampere is a city in the province of West Finland, in the region of Pirkanmaa.
It is currently an important business and cultural centre for Finland, and it has two important universities: the University of Tampere and the Tampere University of Technology.
Tampere is situated between two important lakes, Näsijärvi, to the north, and Pyhäjärvi to the south. In winter, these lakes freeze over, creating an attractive setting for the city. There are some modern ski runs here, as well as all the winter sports facilities you need: a ski school, the possibility of renting equipment, restaurants, cafes and more.
The Pispala and Pyynikki hills provide excellent views of the city and climbing down again takes you to the lakes.
Tampere also has a variety of museums to choose from: the Central Museum of Work, the Textile Industry Museum, the Steam Engine Museum and the Media Museum, among others.
Tampere is a prosperous city that perfectly combines some fine natural landscapes with cultural and business activities.
