The city of Tallin is the capital of the Republic of Estonia. It is also the country’s main sea port, situated on the north coast, on the Gulf of Finland. This lovely city has a charming medieval air to it. It lies on the shore of the Baltic Sea and is full of lakes and forests. The city’s old quarter was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. We highly recommend visiting the twin towers of the Viru Gate, Toompea Castle (currently used as the home of the Estonian parliament), which was built between the 13th and 14th centuries, and the gothic Niguliste Church (15th century).
You should also take time to visit the baroque Kadriorg Park, which dates back to the time of Zsar Peter the Great. From there you can see the Maarjamä Palace and the Convent of St. Brigida, and there are also some lovely wooden houses around the park.
