Valencia is the capital of the Spanish province of the same name, and one of the largest cities in the country. This old city, on the Mediterranean coast, lies by the River Turia.

by AlexTwo great drinks you have to try in Valencia are Agua de Valencia, which ironically contains no agua or “water”. In fact, it’s a refreshing blend of white wine, vodka and orange juice. Watch out though, have too many and this early evening drink can turn into a head banging cocktail! Another Valencian thirst quencher is called “horchata”. However this drink is non-alcoholic. It’s made from tigernut milk and is normally served with a doughy cake called a farton. Make tracks to the old cafe El Siglo, on Plaza Santa Catalina, which is the perfect place to try this�

The line of restaurants along Las Arenas beach are the best places to head, since the seafood is dragged in from the waters. If you’re wondering what the black paella is – it’s actually rice with pieces of squid and laced with squid ink. You have to try it – just mix a little ali-oli (garlicy mayonnaise in with it. Word of caution. Valencia isn’t the place to head to if you don’t like tapas or paella. But then why head here for anything else?�
