The city of Aswan is situated on the west bank of the river Nile, in Egypt.
The city has a large range of attractions, of which the following stand out: The Nubia Museum, which possesses more than 3000 pre-historical objects, the botanical garden, with species from all over the world, The mausoleum of Aga Khan, and the Saint Simeon monastery, which dates back to the 12th century B.C. The unfinished Obelisk is another of the main attractions of Aswan, as is the Temple of Philae, which is an offering to the goddess Isis.
Nevertheless, the nicest things in the city are in and around the Nile: you can go for a ride in a felucca (a typical Egyptian boat) on the Nile, or you could visit Elephantine Island and Kitchener Island. It is also a surprisingly colourful place to go shopping in the bazaars of the area, which offer objects and handcrafts that are typical of the region.
