Samaná is a province in the northwest of the Dominican Republic. It is a peninsula blessed with some beautiful sandy beaches lapped by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.
It is the country’s most unspoiled region, and home to some very vibrant and friendly inhabitants. The capital of this region is Santa Bárbara de Samaná, which was founded in 1756. At the beginning of the 20th century, a raging fire erased all trace of the colonial architecture, leaving behind a thoroughly modern city. Between the months of December and March you can see hunchback whales from boats that cater for all tastes and budgets. Don’t forget to visit Playa Rincón, voted one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world and the Salto del Limón waterfall in the middle of the jungle.
