The city of Karlovy Vary is located in Bohemia, in the west of the Czech Republic.
It lies on the confluence of the Ohre and Teplá rivers and it is historically known for its thermal waters, which include 13 main springs and 300 smaller ones. Here, even one of the rivers, the Teplá, runs with warm water. Karlovy Vary, known as Carlsbad before World War II, has long been a famous spa town, much visited by tourists and those seeking the curative powers of its waters.
The town offers a range of cultural activities and concerts, including the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. There are also many attractive sites for visitors to see, such as the theatre, the churches of St Andrew and St Peter and Paul, the Cathedral of St Mary Magdalene and the Mill Walk. Karlovy Vary is also famous for the manufacture of crystal and porcelain, as well as for the production of the herb liqueur Becherovka and the popular Karlovarská kyselka mineral water.
