Cienfuegos is the capital of the province of the same name, on the south coast of Cuba. This beautiful city is known as the Pearl of the South.
The city's architecture has many examples of neo-classical buildings, with a strong French influence, which gives the city its own unique style. Cienfuegos stands out as a particularly beautiful city with lots of interesting details: broad streets, parks and green spaces lined with old buildings full of history. Its Old Town is very well preserved and has been designated as UNESCO World Heritage. Cienfuegos has a number of enchanting places to see, including its Botanic Garden, which is a national monument, the "Queen's Cemetery", famous for its neo-classical architecture and the Our Lady of the Angels of Jagua Fort, built in 1792.

Once a Castro bass-fishing refuge (Bohío 33 was El Commandante's), this odd hideaway spread over 12 little islands in the Laguna del Tesoro has 44 'bohíos' (huts) with good screens and adequate comforts - though the mosquitoes can be fierce. A 15-minute boat ride to headquarters, which is on stilts, is followed by a canoe ride to the guest cabins. Guests must canoe in to the main lodge for meals in the restaurant. This is an interesting place, but unless guests long to try the bass fishing, steer clear. The air-conditioned property offers a lobby with a hotel safe, currency exchange facilities, a games room, TV lounge, bar and a car park.
