The town of Calafate is located at around 300 kilometres from the city of Rio Gallegos, which is the capital of the province of Santa Cruz, in Argentina.
Calafate takes its name from a shrub that grows plentifully in the area and which has beautiful yellow flowers and purple fruit. The town is popularly known as the ""National Capital of the Glaciers"" due to its strategic location for reaching the Los Glaciares National Park, where you can get excellent views of these natural marvels. One that stands out is the Perito Moreno glacier.
Most of the area's activities are to be found around Lake Argentino. You can choose from walks, cycling, trekking on the great glaciers and many other exciting adventure activities.
The town is very attractive and it has all the comforts of a city. This is in contrast to all the plants and animals that can be seen here, which are typical of Argentine Patagonia, including condors.
