Antigua is an island in the archipelago that makes up the country of Antigua and Barbuda, in the Caribbean. It is 400 kilometres southeast of Puerto Rico. Its capital is St. John's, in the northwest part of the island. It is a major port.
It was a British colony until 1981. Other big towns in Antigua include Falmouth and Parham. In St. John's we recommend visiting the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda – which is housed in the colonial courthouse – the Baroque style Cathedral of St. John, Fort James – which has great views of the port – the botanical gardens and the old rum distillery.
The beaches are spectacular, with fine white sand and crystal clear water. Most have coral reefs and shipwrecks, making them a paradise for divers. You will be able to try water sports, and sailing in this region is always a pleasure.
Most of the hotels are on the northwest coast, in Saint John's. the area around the port is very commercial and has lots of restaurants that serve exquisite cuisine.
We recommend visiting Nelson’s Shipyard National Park, on the south coast, as well as the ruins of the old sugar mills. Antigua awaits you, get to know it!
